BMW systems we calibrate
Driving Assistant and Active Driving Assistant rely on a windshield camera, and many models add front radar, blind spot radar, parking sensors and cameras.
Windshield camera (KAFAS)
The camera behind the windshield used by Driving Assistant. See Windshield Camera Calibration and Camera Calibration.
Front radar
The radar used by adaptive cruise on equipped models. See Radar Calibration.
Blind spot radar
Rear corner radar in the bumper. See Blind Spot Calibration.
Parking, 360 camera and steering angle
See Parking Sensor Calibration, Surround View Camera Calibration and Steering Angle Sensor Calibration.
What BMW requires
BMW publishes its position statements and full repair procedures on its subscription technical site, so this plain English summary comes from public BMW service bulletins. Exact steps vary by model and year.
Camera calibration after glass work
For Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Plus, a BMW bulletin says a new camera calibration must be started after windshield replacement, using the BMW diagnostic test plan, then a road test of about 20 minutes: mostly above 20 mph on straight roads with clear lane lines, not at night or in rain or snow.

Camera mounting matters
The same bulletin says a camera calibration failed fault can come from an improperly mounted camera or windshield bracket. A 2025 bulletin for Driving Assistant Professional on some X3 and X4 models traces calibration faults to a deformed camera cover.

When your BMW needs calibration
These are the most common triggers. We confirm the procedure for your VIN before any work.
Windshield replacement
A new windshield means a new camera calibration. See calibration after windshield replacement.
Collision or bumper work
Bumper, grille, or sensor repairs can shift radar and cameras.
After a wheel alignment
We do not do wheel alignments. We work with partner alignment shops and calibrate after the alignment.
A warning light or message
A Driving Assistant or camera fault message can mean a sensor is out of calibration. See Diagnostic Scanning.
