Toyota and Lexus systems we calibrate

Toyota Safety Sense and Lexus Safety System+ rely on a windshield camera and front radar. Many models add blind spot radar, parking sensors and cameras.

The radar behind the grille or emblem used by Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and pre-collision. See Radar Calibration.

What Toyota and Lexus require

Toyota does not publish one current position statement on calibration. This plain English summary comes from Toyota collision repair publications and Toyota and Lexus service bulletins. Exact steps vary by model and year.

Check every sensor that was touched

Toyota says to check the calibration of any sensor that may have been damaged, misaligned, removed or replaced. Calibration steps after collision repair, wheel alignment and sensor work are in the repair manual for each vehicle, and a final health check should show no trouble codes.

Front camera after glass work

On the models it covers, a Toyota service bulletin says the front camera must be calibrated when the camera is replaced, when the windshield is replaced or removed and reinstalled, or when certain camera codes set.

Bumper repairs near sensors

Toyota says a rear bumper damaged around the Blind Spot Monitor sensor should be replaced, and that repairs or extra paint can affect radar. After repairs, sensors are calibrated and checked for codes, with health checks before and after.

Level ground for radar

A Lexus bulletin says the vehicle and target must be on a level surface for radar calibration, or a floor slope compensation procedure must be used.

When your Toyota or Lexus needs calibration

These are the most common triggers. We confirm the procedure for your VIN before any work.

Collision or bumper work

Front or rear bumper, grille, or sensor bracket repairs can shift radar and cameras.
